Vatican astronomer will speak at Main Library Dec. 9

Jesuit Brother Guy Consolmagno, an American astronomer and the director of the Vatican Observatory, will speak at an educational event titled “Beneath the Same Sky” Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Louisville Free Public Library, 301 York Street. Consolmagno is the winner of the 2014 Carl Sagan Medal for Excellence in Public Communication in Planetary Science.

Tony Dingman, a teaching artist at the Frazier History Museum, will also speak at the event. Dingman will portray Ormsby Mitchel, an astronomer, Civil War general and founder of the Cincinnati Observatory.
