Ursuline Sister of Louisville Dominica Widmer dies

Ursuline Sister of Louisville Dominica Widmer died on Sept. 11 at Mercy Sacred Heart in Louisville. She was 77.

Sister Widmer was a native of Louisville and entered religious life in 1953, the same year she graduated from Sacred Heart Academy.

In Louisville, she taught at St. Theresa School from 1956-59, Holy Trinity School from 1959-60, St. Helen School from 1988-91 and Sacred Heart Academy from 1973-81. She was an art teacher at Jefferson County Youth Center from 1993-2002 and at Fairdale High School from 2002-03.

In more recent years, she was a volunteer art teacher at Mercy Sacred Heart, the Ursuline Motherhouse and in several public schools. She also taught in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Nebraska.

Sister Widmer is survived by two brothers, Norman Widmer (Terry) of Louisville and Jack Widmer (Peggy) of Wadsworth, Ohio; two sisters, Virginia “Ginny” Adams (David) of Louisville and Martha Widmer of Charlestown, Ind.; nieces and nephews; cousins and the Ursuline community.

Visitation will be at the Ursuline Motherhouse, 3115 Lexington Road, on Sept. 13 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel, with interment in St. Michael Cemetery.
