Ursuline Sister of Mount St. Joseph Jane Irvin Hancock dies

OSU-MSJ-Logo-2016Ursuline Sister of Mount St. Joseph Jane Irvin Hancock died on March 8 at Mount St. Joseph in Maple Mount, Ky. She was 89 and in her 69th year of religious life.

Sister Hancock, a native of Waverly, Ky., served as an educator in the Diocese of Owensboro and the Archdiocese of Louisville. In Louisville, she taught from 1969 to 1975 at St. Leonard School, where she was named “Teacher of the Year.”

She also served as the assistant director of the Bishop David Apartments in Louisville from 1989 to 2003. She retired in 2003 to the motherhouse in Maple Mount.

She is survived by her sisters, Ursuline Sister of Mount St. Joseph Jane Miriam Hancock, and Margaret Louise Coshan of Ontario; nieces, nephews and members of her religious community.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on March 13 at Mount St. Joseph. Visitation will be March 12 at Mount St. Joseph at 4 p.m., followed by a service at 6:30 p.m.
