Kidney Walk
Fifteen Trinity High School students and anatomy/physiology teacher Marion Francis took part in the National Kidney Foundation Walk Sept. 29.
The Trinity group also volunteered to assist with the set-up, registration and takedown of the event. The foundation collected nearly $150,000, exceededing its fundraising goal.
A news release from the school said that though the walk is over, the collaboration between Trinity and the National Kidney Foundation will continue. Francis will also incorporate the National Kidney Foundation in his anatomy/physiology course.
In addition to studying the adrenal system, Francis’ students plan to locate people in need of a kidney and possible donors. They will interview patients and doctors with the goal of creating a video entitled “Wanting to Give. Willing to Wait,” to be given to the National Kidney Foundation to be used for educational purposes, the release said.
The students also will discuss the role of faith in waiting for a kidney transplant. According to the release, Trinity Campus Minister Mary Emrich will meet with Francis’ classes for these discussions.
Play scheduled
The Trinity High School Department of Theatre Arts will present “The Importance of Being Ernest” Nov. 6, 7, 9, 12, 13, 14 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 17 at 2 p.m.
All shows will be at the school’s auditorium, 115 N. Sherrin Avenue. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors.
Soldiers visit
St. Edward School hosted a group of soldiers from Fort Campbell at the 5:30 p.m. Mass Oct. 26. The school had a send-off luncheon for the same group before they deployed to Afghanistan last fall.
A news release from the school said the soldiers visited to say “thank you” and return “Peace Buddy,” a bear the students gave to the group. The soldiers also stayed for the St. Nick fundraiser following Mass.
