Training for Catholics interested in hospital ministry to begin in late July

The next training session for lay Catholics interested in doing pastoral ministry at local hospitals will begin July 27. Information sessions about the program will be offered at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. June 12, 18 and 25 and July 10.

The Befriender Hospital Ministry, sponsored by the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Family Ministries Office, serves Catholic patients at Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, Jewish Hospital Medical Campus, Baptist Hospital East, Kosair Children’s Hospital and University Hospital.

The training, which runs from late July through early October, teaches volunteers to provide a “spiritually supportive, non judgemental, listening presence of compassionate care,” according to a brochure.

The cost of the training is $175.

Registration for the information sessions is required. For more information or to register, call Carolyn Kupper at 636-0296.
