St. Catharine College in Springfield, Ky., which plans to close on July 31, has formed “teach-out agreements” with six Kentucky colleges and universities to help its students transfer to other schools.

In an announcement about the agreements, St. Catharine explained that a teach-out agreement aims to provide similar tuition and program opportunities for students when their school ceases to operate.

St. Catharine reached such agreements with Bellarmine University, Midway University, Georgetown College, Kentucky State University, Spencerian College and Sullivan University.

An agreement with Morehead State University, especially for sonography students, is being finalized, St. Catharine announced last week.
The schools are also finding other ways to partner with St. Catharine students and offering incentives.

Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Ky., announced that it will waive application fees and offer a St. Catharine Transfer Incentive Scholarship that includes $900 and a book stipend for one academic year. The school offers a farming program similar to St. Catharine’s.

Kentucky Wesleyan College will offer a renewable academic scholarship equal to half the cost of tuition for St. Catharine students, according to Kentucky Wesleyan’s website.

Midway University in Midway, Ky., has hired three St. Catharine coaches and is working to bring the school’s basketball, soccer and baseball players to Midway, too, an announcement from that school said.

Bellarmine University announced last week that it will begin a wrestling program by “absorbing” St. Catharine’s wrestling team.

Bellarmine’s interim President Doris Tegart said in the announcement, “Upon the announcement of the imminent closing of St. Catharine College, Bellarmine

University’s administration and trustees began exploring programs that could be transitioned from St. Catharine to Bellarmine to the mutual benefit of both.”
