St. Aloysius student wins spelling bee

Carly Fawcett, a seventh-grader at St. Aloysious School in Pewee Valley, Ky., was the winner of the Archdiocese of Louisville District Spelling Bee held at the Flaget Center Feb. 7.

Second place went to Maddie Hardin, an eighth-grader at St. Agnes School.

Fawcett will go on to represent the Archdiocese of Louisville at the Kentucky Derby 2017 Ford Motor Company state competition on March 11 at the Kentucky Center for the Arts.

Thirty-two fourth- through seventh-graders competed in the district spelling bee. They were already winners of their school’s individual competition.

Kenny Phelps, a sixth-grader at St. Andrew Academy took third place. Mya Keating, an eighth-grader from St. Gregory School in Samuels, Ky., finished fourth.
