Sister of Charity of Nazareth Jeanne Mary Wathen dies

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Jeanne Mary Wathen, 89, died at Nazareth Home on Jan. 8. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 69 years.

Sister Wathen, a native of Leonardtown, Md., served in elementary and secondary education as both a teacher and principal for 32 years in Alabama, Kentucky and Ohio.  In Louisville, she taught at St. Pius X, St. Cecilia and St. Lawrence schools. She later served in parish ministry and community service.

She is survived by a sister and two brothers, Adrienne and Stephen Wathen of Leonardtown, Paul Wathen of College Park, Md., and her religious community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Jan. 11 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky. Burial will be in Nazareth Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Jan. 10 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Nazareth Home and after 4 p.m. at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth. There will be a prayer service in St. Vincent Church at 6:30 p.m. that evening.
