Sister M. Macrina Stermec, a teacher, dies at age 95

Ursuline Sister of Louisville M. Macrina Stermec died Jan. 25 at Nazareth Home-Clifton. She was 95 and in her 79th year of religious life.

Sister Stermec, a native of Conemaugh, Pa., served as a teacher in Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska and Pennsylvania.

In Kentucky, Sister Stermec served as a teacher in Louisville from 1941 to 1963 at  St. Martin of Tours, St. Leonard, Holy Spirit, Sacred Heart Model and St. Helen schools. She also served as principal of St. Anthony School from 1963 to 1969. Sister Stermec also served as an assistant in the Ursuline Sisters’ office of finance from 1986 to 2012.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews and members of her religious community.

The Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Jan. 29 at the Ursuline Motherhouse chapel followed by burial in St. Michael Cemetery.
