Sister of Charity of Nazareth Maureen Daugherty, 74, dies

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Maureen Daugherty, formerly Sister Patrick Daugherty, died March 17 at Nazareth Home. She was 74 and had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 52 years.

Sister Daugherty, a native of Louisville, served in secondary education in Kentucky, Alabama and Maryland for 15 years.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, she worked at Catholic Charities from 1980-82; as editor of SCNews from 1982-88; as a staff member at the Sister Visitor Center from 1988-89; and as a technical aide in the radiology department of Caritas Medial Center/Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital from 1989-2009. Following her retirement, she served in the Apostolate of Prayer and as a driver when needed.

She is survived by two sisters, Kyran Daugherty of Louisville; and Anne D. Lutkus of Geneseo, N.Y.; one brother, Dr. Michael Daugherty of Lexington, Ky,; and members of her religious community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 23 in St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky., at 10:30 a.m., followed by burial in Nazareth Cemetery.

Visitation will be on March 22 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Nazareth Home and after 4 p.m. in St. Vincent. There will be a prayer service at St. Vincent March 22 at 6:30 p.m.
