SCN Teresa Rose Nabholz, a teacher and nurse, dies at 85

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Teresa Rose Nabholz, formerly Sister Marita Ann Nabholz, died Feb. 11 at Carrico Hall in Nazareth, Ky.

Sister Nabholz, a native of Conway, Ariz., was 85 and had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 62 years, time she served in the United States, India and Belize.

In the U.S. she served as a third-grade teacher at St. Joseph School in Bardstown, Ky., in 1954.

Sister Nabholz received her bachelor’s degree in nursing at St. Joseph Infirmary in Louisville and served there from 1954 to 1961, when she traveled to Mokama, India, to serve at Nazareth Hospital.

She later served in Belize from 2002 to 2009. Sister Nabholz returned to the U.S. in 2009 and served in the sisters’ office of congregational advancement from 2009 to 2014.

Sister Nabholz is survived by three sisters: Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Emily Nabholz; School Sister of Notre Dame Elizabeth Nabholz of Chatawa, Miss.; Elinor Nabholz Rohlman of Morrilton, Ariz.; and two brothers, Tom and Charles Nabholz of Conway, Ariz.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Feb. 17 at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth. Sister Nabholz’s body was donated for medical research; burial will be at a later date.
