SCN Eleanora Mattingly, a teacher, dies at 94

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Eleanora Mattingly died Aug. 23 at Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was 94 and had been an SCN for 78 years.

Sister Mattingly, a native of Sotterly, Md., served as an elementary teacher in Kentucky, Ohio, Massachusetts and Mississippi for 30 years. In the Archdiocese of Louisville she taught at St. Cecilia School from 1938 to 1940.

Sister Mattingly served in health ministry at Our Lady of Peace Hospital from 1972 to 1994 and at Caritas Peace Center from 1994 to 1996. She served in community service at Nazareth Home from 1996-1997. She also served in social service ministry in Nashville, Tenn., for two years.

In her later years, Sister Mattingly served in the apostolate of prayer.

She is survived by her sister Bessie Hill of Lexington Park, Md., nieces, nephews and her religious community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Aug. 28 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky. Burial will follow in Nazareth Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Aug. 27 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Nazareth Home and after 4 p.m. in St. Vincent Church. A prayer service will follow at 6:30 p.m.
