Schools hold prayer vigils for Syria

Last week students at St. Francis of Assisi School and Presentation Academy attended services to pray for peace in Syria.

St. Francis of Assisi students attended Mass Sept. 7 — the day Pope Francis proclaimed a “day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria, the Middle East and throughout the world.” Following Mass the students walked to Douglass Loop and held signs and banners encouraging others to pray for peace.

Students at Presentation attended a prayer service for peace in the school’s chapel, Friday, Sept. 6. Johna Fortener, chair of the theology department and service director, led the service. The service was organized by Sister of Charity of Nazareth Amina Bejos. The school also opened and closed the day in prayer and held a meal prayer for Syria during lunch.
