Sacred Heart Model School presents alumnus award

At a Back-to-Campus celebration on Sept. 15, Sacred Heart Model School presented its Alumnus of the Year Award to Doris Boland Jones.

Jones is a 1945 graduate of SHMS and a 1949 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She was chair of the 2004 Ursuline United Capital Campaign which raised $9.55 million for Sacred Heart Schools, a news release from the school said. In 2009, Jones and her husband, Robert, established an endowment scholarship “to help increase Sacred Heart Academy’s socio-economic diversity and to give a student who might not otherwise be able to attend the school the gift of an Ursuline education.”

SHMS also presented the Young Achiever Award to Sam Leist, a 2006 graduate. Kathy Goyette, a former faculty member, was honored for her dedication to SHMS, and Sandy Collins was presented the Former Parent of Alumni Award. Sister Lorna Weiler also was honored with the Special Recognition Award.
