Passionists elect Brother John Monzyk superior of Newburg Road community

Brother John Monzyk

Passionist Brother John Monzyk has been elected superior of the Passionist’s Sacred Heart Monastery in Louisville, part of the Passionist’s Holy Cross Province.

He succeeds Father John Schork, who now serves in the provincial headquarters in a variety of roles.

Brother Monzyk is the first religious brother to serve as superior here. He is a native of Washington, Mo., attended Bellarmine University and is a former high school teacher. He taught physics, math and chemistry.

He holds a doctoral degree in molecular science and most recently served as an adjunct professor of math at Spalding University.

The Passionist community, located at 1924 Newburg Road adjacent to St. Agnes Church, currently has 13 men.
