New pastors, administrators appointed

Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz has made the following appointments, effective June 21, unless otherwise noted:

Reverend Peter Bucalo will be administrator of Mary Queen of Peace Church.

Father Bucalo, a native of Ann Arbor, Mich., attended St. Meinrad Seminary and was ordained May 30, 2015.

He was previously assigned to Holy Name, Holy Trinity and Holy Spirit churches.

Reverend Jeffrey D. Gatlin will be pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church.

Father Gatlin, born in St. Louis, Mo., attended St. Meinrad Seminary and was ordained on June 3, 2000.

He was previously assigned to Sts. Simon and Jude Church; Most Blessed Sacrament Church; St. Albert the Great Church; Church of the Annunciation in Shelbyville, Ky.; St. John Chrysostom Church in Eminence, Ky.; St. Peter the Apostle Church; St. Polycarp Church; St. Clement Church; St. James Church; Holy Spirit Church; St. Brigid Church in Vine Grove, Ky.; St. Martin of Tours Church in Flaherty, Ky.; and St. Margaret Mary Church.

He also served as chaplain of the archdiocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting and Sacred Heart Academy.

Reverend John R. Johnson will be pastor of All Saints Church in Taylorsville, Ky., and St. Michael Church in Fairfield, Ky.

Father Johnson, a native of Louisville, attended St. Meinrad Seminary and was ordained Aug. 27, 2011.

He was previously assigned to St. Albert the Great Church; St. Margaret Mary Church; St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church; and Holy Spirit Church.

He is also part-time chaplain at Central State Hospital.

Reverend Steephen Koola, C.M.I., will serve as administrator of Most Blessed Sacrament and Sts. Simon and Jude churches.

He was ordained Dec. 27, 1996, is a native of Kerala, India, and attended Dharmaram Vidya Kshetra (Pontifical Athenaeum of Philosophy and Theology), Bangalore, India.

He was previously assigned to St. Augustine Church in Lebanon, Ky., and Holy Name of Mary Church in Calvary, Ky.

Reverend Louis J. Meiman will be pastor of St. Leonard and St. Frances of Rome churches.

Father Meiman, a native of Louisville, attended American College in Louvain Belgium, and was ordained on Aug. 1, 1987.

He was previously assigned to St. Francis of Assisi Church; Christ the King Church; St. Gabriel Church; Immaculate Heart of Mary Church; Mother of Good Counsel Church; and Holy Trinity Church.

He has also served as co-chaplain at St. Xavier High School and in campus ministry at the University of Louisville.

Reverend George Otuma, A.J., will serve as administrator of St. Bernard Church in Clementsville, Ky., and Sacred Heart Church in Liberty, Ky.

Father Otuma, a native of Northern Uganda, attended the Apostles of Jesus Theologicum, Nairobi, Kenya, and was ordained July 21, 2001.

He was previously assigned to Holy Spirit Church.

Reverend Charles D. Walker will be pastor of Good Shepherd Church while remaining pastor of St. Peter the Apostle Church. He will end his service with Catholic Campus Ministry at the University of Louisville.

Father Walker, a native of Loretto, Ky., attended St. Meinrad Seminary and was ordained on May 30, 1981.

He was previously assigned to St. James Church in Elizabethtown, Ky.; St. Ignatius Church in White Mills, Ky.; St. Ambrose Church in Cecilia, Ky.; St. Polycarp Church; St. Clement Church; St. Pius X Church; Holy Cross Church in Burkesville, Ky.; Emmanuel Church in Albany, Ky.; and Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Danville, Ky.

Reverend Nicholas J. Brown will be pastor of Holy Redeemer Church in Greensburg, Ky., Holy Spirit Church in Jamestown, Ky.,  and Good Shepherd Church in Columbia, Ky. He previously served as administrator of these three churches.

Father Brown, a native of Louisville, was ordained on May 25, 2013, and attended St. Meinrad Seminary.

He was previously assigned to Holy Trinity Church; St. James Church in Elizabethtown, Ky.; St. Ambrose Church in Cecilia, Ky.; and St. Ignatius Church in White Mills, Ky.

Reverend J. Jason Harris will be pastor of St. Thomas Church in Bardstown, Ky., while remaining chaplain at Bethlehem High School. He previously served as administrator of St. Thomas Church.

Father Harris, born in Grandview, Ind., attended the Catholic University of America and was ordained on May 31, 2015.

He was previously assigned to the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown, Ky., and St. Michael Church in Fairfield, Ky.

Reverend George S. Illikkal, C.M.I., will be pastor of St. Mary Magdalen of Pazzi Church in Payneville, Ky., and St. Theresa Church in Rhodelia, Ky. He previously served as administrator of these two churches.

He was ordained on Jan. 2, 2005, is a native of Kerala, India, and attended Dharmaram Vidya Kshetra (Pontifical Athenaeum of Philosophy and Theology), Bangalore, India.

He was previously assigned to St. Augustine Church in Lebanon, Ky., and Holy Name of Mary Church in Calvary, Ky.

Reverend Devassya P. Kanattu, C.M.I., will be pastor of Emmanuel Church in Albany, Ky., and Holy Cross Church in Burkesville, Ky. He previously served as administrator of these two churches.

He was ordained on Dec. 27, 2000, is a native of Kerala, India, and attended Dharmaram Vidya Kshetra (Pontifical Athenaeum of Philosophy and Theology), Bangalore, India.

He was previously assigned to St. Bernadette Church in Prospect, Ky.

Reverend Bryan T. Lamberson will be pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church in St. Francis, Ky., and Holy Cross Church in Holy Cross, Ky. He previously served as administrator of these two churches.

Father Lamberson, a native of Uniondale, N.Y., attended St. Meinrad Seminary and was ordained on June 3, 2000.

He was previously assigned to the Cathedral of the Assumption; St. Bernard Church; Our Mother of Sorrows Church; Church of the Annunciation in Shelbyville, Ky.; and St. John Chrysostom Church in Eminence, Ky.

Reverend Stuart B. Priddy will be pastor of St. Bartholomew Church, effective June 18. He previously served as administrator of St. Bartholomew.

Father Priddy, a native of Elizabethtown, Ky., attended St. Meinrad Seminary and was ordained on May 26, 2012.

He was previously assigned to St. Aloysius Church in Pewee Valley, Ky.; Holy Spirit Church; and Immaculate Conception Church in La Grange, Ky.

Reverend Christopher S. Rhodes will be pastor of Our Mother of Sorrows, St. Elizabeth of Hungary and St. Therese churches. He previously served as administrator of these three churches.

Father Rhodes, born in Dallas, Texas, attended St. Meinrad Seminary and the Catholic University of America. He was ordained on May 26, 2012.

He was previously assigned to St. Patrick Church; St. Augustine Church in Lebanon, Ky.; Holy Name of Mary Church in Calvary, Ky.; the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown, Ky.; and St. Michael Church in Fairfield, Ky.

Reverend Saju M. Vadakumpadan, C.M.I., will be pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Campbellsville, Ky.; Our Lady of the Hills Church in Finley, Ky.; and Our Lady of Fatima Church in Phillipsburg, Ky. He previously served as administrator of these three churches.

He was ordained on Dec. 29, 1992, is a native of Kerala, India, and attended Dharmaram Vidya Kshetra (Pontifical Athenaeum of Philosophy and Theology), Bangalore, India.

He was previously assigned to St. Gabriel Church.

Reverend Michael T. Wimsatt will be pastor of the Cathedral of the Assumption while remaining vocation director for the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Vocation Office. He previously served as administrator of the Cathedral of the Assumption.

Father Wimsatt, a native of Oakland, Ky., attended St. Mary’s Seminary & University and the Catholic University of America. He was ordained on May 29, 2010.

He was previously assigned to Holy Trinity; St. Joseph in Bardstown, Ky.; and St. Michael in Fairfield, Ky.

Reverend Albert Clyde Añover, a priest from the Archdiocese of Palo, Philippines, will be associate pastor of St. Albert the Great Church.

Reverend Bernard J. Breen will retire from St. Frances of Rome Church and St. Leonard Church.

Reverend Dominic Bump, O.P. will be associate pastor of Holy Rosary Church in Springfield, Ky., while remaining associate pastor of St. Rose Church in Springfield, effective immediately.

Reverend John R. Burke will remain as sacramental moderator of St. William Church for a period of one year.

Reverend Gary G. Davis will remain as administrator of St. Athanasius Church for a period of one year.

Reverend Luder Wilfredo Fernandez will be associate pastor of Holy Trinity Church and Holy Name Church.

Reverend Kenneth R. Fortener will remain as administrator of St. Vincent de Paul Church in New Hope, Ky., and St. Ann Church in Howardstown, Ky., for a period of one year.

Reverend Thomas E. Gentile will retire from Mary Queen of Peace Church.

Reverend Mr. Michael C. Martin, to be ordained to the priesthood on May 27, 2017, at the Cathedral of the Assumption, will be associate pastor of St. Augustine Church in Lebanon, Ky., and Holy Name of Mary Church in Calvary, Ky.

Reverend L. Martin Martiny, O.P. will be chaplain of Catholic campus ministry at the University of Louisville.

Reverend George Munjanattu, O.F.M. Conv., will be a sacramental moderator of Holy Family Church, effective immediately.

Reverend Mr. M. Casey Sanders, to be ordained to the priesthood on May 27, 2017, at the Cathedral of the Assumption, will be associate pastor of St. James Church in Elizabethtown, Ky.

Reverend Luke Min Soo Ko, a priest from the Diocese of Uijeongbu, Republic of Korea, will be associate pastor at St. Aloysius Church in Pewee Valley, Ky., effective April 15.

Reverend Deogratias Ssamba, A.J., will be associate pastor of Good Shepherd Church while remaining associate pastor of St. Peter the Apostle Church.
