Last week Kentucky Harvest donated about 10,000 cans of soup to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s Open Hand Kitchen on Jackson Street.

According to a news release from Linda Romine, the society’s director of communications, the donation was appreciated and greatly needed. The kitchen, at 1026 S. Jackson St., serves a free hot lunch and dinner seven days a week, every day of the year.

Last year, the facility served more than 120,000 free meals, and donations of canned goods, meats, protein items and other pantry staples are needed year-round, Romine added.
