Hunger dinner to be Sept. 14 at St. Bernard

The Fern Creek/Highview United Ministry will hold its 15th annual James O. Leach Hunger Awareness Dinner Sept. 14 at St. Bernard Church, 7500 Tangelo Drive, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Member churches from the Fern Creek/Highview area will serve salad, homemade soups, bread, cookies and a drink at the event. The cost of the dinner is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

Participants are asked to bring a canned protein item for the Individual and Family Assistance Center (IFAC). Proceeds will be split between the IFAC and the annual Dare to Care Hunger Walk/Run which will take place the following day.

During the dinner, speakers will address the “increasing level of hunger in our local area,” a news release from the ministry said. For more information about the dinner contact the Rev. Ron Loughry at 762-9608.

The 36th annual Dare to Care Hunger 5K Walk/Run will be Sept. 15 at the Waterfront Festival Plaza. The walk begins at 2:15 p.m. Funds raised at the walk will benefit the Dare to Care food bank and the World Food Program. For more information, visit thehungerwalk.org.
