High school faculty receive awards from their schools

Faculties at local high schools have received awards from their schools recently.

Cindi Baughman, Assumption High School’s assistant principal and dean of students, received the Rose Award, a $5,000 grant endowed by an anonymous donor, during the school’s Thanksgiving prayer service Nov. 24.

The award recognizes “an Assumption employee who has been a positive influence,” said a statement from the school. Baughman has served at Assumption for 38 years — as a teacher for 21 years. She developed the school’s emergency management plan and founded the Mercy Ambassadors Exchange Program.

St. Xavier High School’s Alan Donhoff, the athletic director, and John Jefferson, a math teacher, were honored with the Theodore James Ryken Award during a Mass Dec. 3 celebrating the feast of St. Francis Xavier.

The Ryken Award, named after the founder of the Xaverian Brothers, “is given to a St. X faculty or staff member who dedicates his or her life to furthering the mission of a Xaverian education,” said a statement from the school.

The recipients must also demonstrate a commitment to proclaiming the Gospel, participating in the school’s community of faith and for nurturing members of the community, the statement said.
