Health fair will offer free prostate screenings on Sept. 14

The Catholic Enrichment Center, 3146 W. Broadway, will offer free prostate cancer screenings, blood pressure checks, physical therapy assessments and other health-related exams as part of its “Healthy Before Halftime Health & Wellness Fair” on Sept. 14.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and feature dance classes, food samples, door prizes and activities for children.

Men are encouraged to take advantage of the free prostate exam. Former University of Louisville All-American Darrell Griffith and the organization Families for Fathers are helping raise awareness of the need for prostate screenings. According to a news release from the orgnization, one man in six will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime and the disease is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men.

For African American men, the death rate from prostate cancer is twice as high.
