Educating is an act of love. This is the message more than 200 educators heard at a luncheon last week honoring their years of service to schools in the Archdiocese of Louisville.
Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz addressed the teachers recalling Pope Francis’ words: “Let us thank all those who teach in Catholic schools. Educating is an act of love; it is like giving life.”
The Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Lifelong Formation and Education formally recognized 206 educators. The teachers — who were honored at a luncheon at The Olmsted on Nov. 2 — were recognized for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 years of service. There are 19,526 students in 49 schools located in seven counties of the archdiocese.
Archbishop Kurtz commended the teachers for their steadfast commitment to Catholic education.
“That fidelity is a living witness to your students, to the families and to all of the church of what it means to mirror the fidelity of Christ to others,” he said.
During the event, Leisa Schulz, superintendent of Catholic schools, thanked the teachers and school administrators for “sharing your lives in Christ with the students and families” of the archdiocese.
“Together we build foundations rooted in the Gospel. Your witness and dedication to Catholic school education speaks volumes,” Schulz said.
