Dominican sisters mark jubilees

Seven Dominican Sisters of Peace are celebrating jubilee years in 2016. The sisters and the jubilee years they are celebrating include:

70 years

Sister Marina Gibbons lives at St. Catharine Motherhouse in St. Catharine, Ky., and has a ministry of prayer and service.

Sister Margaret Marie Hofstetter lives at Sansbury Care Center in St. Catharine and has a ministry of prayer and presence.

Sister Mary Esther Owens lives at Sansbury Care Center and has a ministry of prayer and presence.

65 years

Sister Margaret Philip Shaw lives at Sansbury Care Center and has a ministry of prayer and presence.

60 years

Sister Regina McCarthy lives at Sansbury Care Center and has a ministry of prayer and presence.

Sister Marie Jeanne Surette lives at St. Catharine Motherhouse and is involved in a number of ministries there.

50 years

Sister Nang Thi Nguyen
Sister Nang Thi Nguyen

Sister Nang Thi Nguyen professed vows with the Dominican Sisters in South Vietnam in 1966. In 1980, she, two nephews and one niece escaped by boat to a refugee camp in Singapore. Six months later, they entered the U.S.

Sister Nang earned her bachelor of science in social work from Spalding University and worked as a bilingual instructor for the Jefferson County Public Schools and in the Social Service and Activities department at Sansbury Care Center. She has also worked as a certified nursing assistant at Marian Home and Four Courts in Louisville.
Currently, she serves as a child caregiver.

    70 Years…Sister Mary Esther Owens lives at Sansbury Care Center and has a ministry of prayer and presence.

    Was Sister the Principal at Sts. Simon & Jude in Brooklyn, NY?
