Dominican Sister of Peace Mary C. Gerrior, a nurse, dies at 88

Dominican Sister of Peace Mary C. Gerrior died on Aug. 24, at Sansbury Care Center in St. Catharine, Kentucky. She was 88 and had been a Dominican for 58 years.

Sister Gerrior, a native of Waltham, Mass., ministered as a nurse in Nebraska, Massachusetts and Kentucky. In Kentucky, she served at Rosary Hospital in Campbellsville, Sansbury Infirmary on the grounds of the St. Catharine Motherhouse in St. Catharine and Mary Immaculate Hospital in Lebanon.

She also served as a clinical pastoral education supervisor in South Dakota, Texas and Massachusetts. She was the director of pastoral care at hospitals in Massachusetts and Cincinnati.

She also served as a counselor and chaplain. She provided retreat work for Movement for a Better World in Washington, D.C. and was a director of religious education in Toronto.

Sister Gerrior moved to the St. Catharine Motherhouse in 2010 and moved to Sansbury Care Center in 2014 where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.

She is survived by a sister, Jeanne Martin, and two brothers, Paul and Lawrence Gerrior.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. on Aug. 27 at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 28 at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse Cemetery.
