Documentary on Thomas Merton’s final days and legacy to air on KET

“The Many Storeys and Last Days of Thomas Merton,” a documentary, will air on Kentucky Educational Television (KET) 2  today, Dec. 10, at 9 p.m. Another showing will air on KET Dec. 14 at 10 p.m.

The documentary — produced and directed by Louisville filmmaker Morgan Atkinson — chronicles Merton’s life during 1968, which is the year he died.

“The program takes viewers from Merton’s home at Kentucky’s Abbey of Gethsemani across America in the turbulent year of 1968, and finally to Asia, where Merton met with the Dalai Lama and other international spiritual seekers,” said a press release from KET.

The film includes interviews with the Dalai Lama and others who knew Merton well, the release said.
