DeSales High School honors veterans

DeSales High School held a special Veterans Day Memorial Service on Nov. 12 to honor the service of a fallen DeSales grad, and to pay tribute to the nation’s veterans and armed services personnel.

Marine Corporal Aaron Faust, who graduated from the high school on Kenwood Drive in 2007, died during active duty service in Afghanistan last April. He was honored by having a plaque bearing his name placed on the DeSales Alumni Veterans Memorial monument.

The ceremony also included the laying of a memorial wreath for Faust and the dedication of a new granite bench next to the memorial that honors all military veterans who have been killed in service to their country.

Assisting in the ceremony was Kerry Wentworth, a military chaplain from the Kentucky Air National Guard, an active Marine ROTC unit from Seneca High School and bugler Steve Buttleman from Churchill Downs.

Faust’s parents, Ken and Theresa Faust, also attended the event as special guests of DeSales, as did civic and community leaders including U.S. Representative John Yarmuth and Metro Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.
