Crowning of Our Lady of Kibeho set for Dec. 11 at St. Thomas More

RecordLogo-FThe Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry will commemorate the first apparition of the Blessed Mother in Kibeho, Rwanda, on Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. The Our Lady of Kibeho Crowning Celebration will be held at St. Thomas More Church, 6105 South Third Street, and Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz will preside.

According to an announcement from the archdiocese, Our Lady of Kibeho appeared to several young people in the 1980s in southwestern Rwanda. Our Lady communicated messages to the children, including “an apocalyptic vision of Rwanda descending into violence and hatred, foretelling the 1994 Rwandan Genocide,” the announcement said. In 2001, the church recognized the apparitions as authentic.
