Carmelite Father Farrell Kane, 76, dies April 27

Carmelite Father Farrell Kane, a former principal of DeSales High School, died on April 27 in Naperville, Ill. He was 76.

Father Kane made his solemn profession with the Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary, Order of Carmelites, on Feb. 8, 1962, and was ordained a Carmelite priest on Sept. 7, 1964.

Father Kane served as an educator, pastor and in leadership in his religious community. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, he served as a teacher, dean of men and treasurer at DeSales High School from 1965-1973. He later returned to DeSales where he served as principal for eight years.

Father Kane retired in 2013. Early this year, he moved to St. Patrick’s Residence in Naperville, Ill., where he remained until his death.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on May 1 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee, Ill., with interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Chicago.
