African American convocation planned

The African American Catholic Convocation will be held April 1 at the Flaget Center, 1935 Lewiston Drive, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The workshops that will be offered include: Spiritual Growth; Catholic Leaders Charting the Future; Biblical Justice; Community Outreach; Mentoring Our Youth; Ministry Teams that Work; Males Making a Difference in their Families, Communities and Church; Where the Spirit is, the Lord is; Sacred Movement; and What Does it Take to be a Vibrant Church.

Speakers include Vanessa Griffin Campbell of the Diocese of Cleveland; Father John Judie, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary and Christ the King churches; Deacon Royce Winters of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati; and M. Annette Mandley-Turner, executive director of the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry (OMM).

Those who plan to attend the National Black Catholic Congress XII in July are strongly encouraged to attend this event.

The cost to attend is $25 for adults and $15 for youth (ages first-grade to high school) and includes a light breakfast and lunch. For more information or to register, call the OMM at 471-2146. The registration deadline is March 24.

The event is a collaborative effort by the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry and dioceses in Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky, and is funded by the Catholic Services Appeal.
