Breakfast with Santa

St. Catherine Academy in New Haven, Ky., will host its annual “Breakfast with Santa” on Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. A news release from the academy said everyone is welcome to have breakfast with Santa, make holiday crafts, take pictures with Santa and enter to win a door prize. There is no charge for the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own camera for pictures with Santa.

Honors academy

Sacred Heart Academy senior Savannah Carter recently received a certificate of recognition from the Commonwealth Honors Academy held in June at Murray State University.
Carter and 93 other students completed the three-week academy. As a successful graduate of the academy, Carter will receive six hours of university credit, a $2,000 per year Murray State housing scholarship and the option to take six additional hours from Murray tuition-free.

State champs

The Sacred Heart Academy cross country team won the 3A state championship Nov. 8. The school held a pep rally in honor of the cross country team on Nov. 10.
Freshman Kathleen Simms won the individual state title with a time of 18:15.02. In addition, Megan Buechler, Abby Reburn and Samantha Simms finished in the Top 25.
This is the seventh state cross country championship for both Sacred Heart and Coach Rick Heim.

Eagle Scout

Michael J. Sandell, a junior at Trinity High School, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Sandell is a member of Troop 327 at St. Albert the Great Church.
For his Eagle Scout Service Leadership Project, Sandell created a woodland walking path at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve in Oldham County.

Fall plays

Trinity High School will present “All in the Timing” Nov. 13 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. All performances will be in the Trinity Auditorium, 115 N. Sherrin Avenue.
Tickets are $8 for students and seniors and $10 for adults. For more information, call 736-2188.

Presentation Academy will present “Beauty and the Beast,” Nov. 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $14 for adults and $10 for students and children. All performances will be at the Arts & Athletics Center, 900 S. Fourth Street.

Speech/debate

Five members of Trinity High School’s Speech and Debate team competed in the Ruth Blair Memorial Swing Tournament hosted by LaRue County High School and Murray State University on Nov. 1.
In the LaRue County section of the competition, Jorge Rojas-Ortega, a junior at Trinity, placed third in extemporaneous speaking and second in impromptu speaking. In the Murray portion of the tournament, senior Pedro Sanchez-Villa placed third in impromptu speaking.

All-state soccer

Four members of the 2014 Trinity High School soccer team have been named to the West All-State team.
Senior Sam Stockton and junior Greg Fischer were named to the first team. Senior Eric Goranflo and junior Drew Goetz were named to the second team.

Letters of intent

Eleven seniors at Sacred Heart Academy signed letters of intent to participate in college athletics. They are:
Volleyball —  Julia Boswell, United States Air Force Academy, and Sydney Shearn, United States Naval Academy.
Golf — Maddie Rose Hamilton, University of Notre Dame, and Meredith Moir,  University of Louisville.
Lacrosse — Sydney Flynn, University of Notre Dame, and Maddie Beck, University of Louisville.
Swimming — Leah Stevens, Stanford University, and Victoria Horsman, Tampa University.
Cross Country/Track — Maggie Allen, Indiana University.
Cycling — Katherine Santos, Marian University.
Diving — Erin Duffey,  University of Louisville.

Open House

Sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students are invited to visit Mercy Academy for an open house Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tours will begin every ten minutes. The open house is a chance for families to tour the 24-acre campus, meet current students and speak with teachers.
